Lab Notes 4 April

Lab Notes 4 April

Hi! We thought it might be fun to offer a bit of a regular update on whatever is going on in the lab in a given week–what we might be working on, what’s coming up, hilarious mishaps, and an occasional rant. It would also be a great chance to answer any questions we get that are of more broad interest.

With that, it's also possible this is a terrible idea, and no one finds the inner workings of the lab (and our brains) all that interesting. We’ll try to make the lab notes easy to dodge if you’d rather just know when the next sales and launches are, but we’ll also try to keep these interesting–and if not interesting, at least brief!

This week we’ve been focusing on adjusting a fragrance that has been a passion project for over a year. One of the central notes is sesame which is just such a beautiful, warm note but can easily turn to “take-out order” on drydown. Finding the right materials to support all the desirable qualities through drydown is a painstaking process, but in the best way. This week I blended 11 different variations of the core theme and, at this moment, I am absolutely bouncing in my seat because version 11 is on my arm now and, an hour after application, it smells like sunwarmed skin, slightly nutty but mostly an odd balance between velvet and parchment soaked in oil.

If you have any questions, we’d love to answer them. Feel free to just reply to this message.

Kind Regards

Crystal and Joni

I know most creative endeavors take some trial and error, so I was curious as to how many iterations you usually go through before you consider a fragrance complete. Have some scents been easier or harder than others to craft?
